HKS Racing Suction Intake - 2013-2021 Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota
Racing Suction Intake for the 2013-2021 FR-S, BRZ, and Toyota 86

The HKS Racing Suction Intake for the 2013-2021 Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota 86 is HKS's performance intake system for the FA20, using an aluminum intake pipe and HKS filter to replace the factory airbox and intake tract. The Racing Suction is designed to maximize intake airflow and provide induction sound that is noticeable at high RPM. The FA20 at 7,000+ rpm through a proper intake is a distinctive sound and the Racing Suction makes the most of it.

- Replaces factory airbox and intake tract
- Increased airflow over OEM
- Noticeable induction sound at high RPM
- Fitment: 2013-2021 Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86
70mm Pipe, 340 cm² Filter Area, 8-15°C Temp Penalty
The Racing Suction uses a 70mm (2.75 inch) inner diameter aluminum pipe, the same diameter as the FA20's factory throttle body inlet. The HKS dry-type cotton gauze filter element is 200mm in diameter and 150mm tall, providing approximately 340 cm² of filter surface area versus the factory element's approximately 190 cm². Documented intake air temperature increase over ambient under sustained operation is approximately 8–15°C due to the short-ram positioning in the engine bay, which is why HKS also offers the cold air duct (AT002) as a complement to reduce this effect.

High-RPM Induction Sound as the Design Priority
The FA20 is at its best above 5,500 rpm and the intake sound through the HKS Racing Suction at that RPM range is one of the better auditory experiences in this engine class. The aluminum pipe does not dampen intake resonance the way the OEM rubber and plastic assembly does, which means the induction note is cleaner and more present in the cabin.

Short-Ram vs Cold Air: Airflow vs Temperature
The Racing Suction is a short-ram intake, the filter is positioned in the engine bay rather than at a remote cold-air location. For maximum intake temperature management, the Cold Air Intake System (HKS70018-AT006) or the dry carbon versions provide a lower intake charge temperature. The Racing Suction prioritizes induction sound and airflow; the cold air options prioritize temperature management.

The FT Breakdown

The Racing Suction is the intake for FA20 owners who want the high-RPM intake experience as part of their build. Combined with equal length headers and a cat-back exhaust, the FA20 at the top of its rev range becomes genuinely engaging. The intake is where that experience starts. The 8–15°C intake temperature penalty of the short-ram Racing Suction is the honest tradeoff for its high-RPM induction sound. HKS publishes this figure rather than hiding it, which tells you something about how they view the product — they made it for the driving experience it provides, not to claim temperature numbers they cannot achieve. If the sound is the priority, the Racing Suction delivers; if temperature management is the priority, the Premium Suction or CAI are the correct choices.
