HKS Hipermax R Coilovers (9k Front / 10k Rear) - 2022+ Subaru BRZ / Toyota GR86
Hipermax R Coilovers for the 2022+ Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86
The HKS Hipermax R Coilovers for the 2022+ Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 bring HKS's performance-focused damper and spring calibration to the FA24-powered second generation platform. Spec'd at 9K front and 10K rear, the Hipermax R is tuned for drivers who take the GR86 and BRZ to the track regularly and want suspension that responds to those demands. The asymmetric spring rate. Stiffer rear than front, is a deliberate tuning choice that balances the platform's natural rear weight bias and helps rotate the car in fast corners.

9/10 kgf/mm, 46mm Piston, Revised FA24 Valving
The AT006 runs identical 9 kgf/mm front and 10 kgf/mm rear spring rates to the first-generation Hipermax R but with revised damper valving developed for the FA24 chassis's slightly different front-rear weight distribution (55/45 front/rear on the GR86 versus 53/47 on the previous generation). Ride height adjustment range is -20mm to -50mm front and -15mm to -45mm rear. The 46mm inverted front strut piston is carried over from the Supra R application. Full adjustment range is 16 clicks.

Why the Asymmetric Rates Suit the GR86 and BRZ
The 2022+ GR86 and BRZ are already well-sorted chassis from the factory but the OEM suspension makes predictable compromises for ride quality and noise. The Hipermax R removes those compromises and replaces them with a setup calibrated for the driving you are actually doing. At 9K/10K, the ride is firm but not punishing on smooth surfaces, and the handling benefit in fast corners and under hard braking is immediately apparent.
Track-Focused, Not the Everyday Choice
The asymmetric spring rate is intentional. Running equal rates front and rear on the GR86 and BRZ tends to produce understeer. The rear is naturally stiffer than the front in the OEM suspension geometry. HKS's 9K/10K spec is based on their testing of the platform and the rates work together to produce neutral, progressive handling at the limit.
The FT Breakdown
The Hipermax R at 9K/10K is the coilover for GR86 and BRZ owners who have decided what their car is for. It is not the everyday comfort choice. The HIPERMAX S or HIPERMAX-G are better for that application. For the driver who values lap times and corner commitment over ride quality on the daily commute, this is HKS's recommendation for the platform. The revised damper valving for the FA24 chassis is what makes the AT006 the correct product for the 2022+ platform rather than just the same coilover with different ride height hardware. HKS re-tested the FA24 GR86 and BRZ independently and found the valving optimum shifted from the FA20 application — the extra power and slightly different front-rear balance of the FA24 chassis responded better to a revised compression curve at the front. That testing is why there is an AT006 and not just an AT001 re-badged.
