The HKS Dry Carbon Engine Cover for the 2022-2024 Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 replaces the factory plastic engine cover with a lightweight dry carbon fiber unit. The FA24 engine bay benefits from the visual upgrade. The OEM plastic cover is functional but visually unremarkable, and the HKS dry carbon cover gives the engine bay the quality of material that the rest of the build deserves. Dry carbon construction also provides better thermal isolation than plastic, keeping engine bay heat away from components above the cover.

2mm Pre-Preg CF, 0.6 kg vs 1.4 kg OEM
The dry carbon engine cover for the 2022+ platform is manufactured at 2mm nominal thickness using 2×2 twill pre-preg CF. Weight is approximately 0.6 kg versus the OEM plastic cover at approximately 1.4 kg. The carbon fiber thermal conductivity is approximately 5–10 W/(m·K) depending on layup orientation, compared to ABS plastic at approximately 0.17 W/(m·K), the carbon cover conducts less heat than plastic in the through-thickness direction, but the main thermal benefit is the lower thermal mass, which means the cover reaches equilibrium with engine bay temperature faster and does not retain heat as long as plastic after engine shutdown.

The FA24 is a capable engine and the HKS dry carbon cover is the appropriate visual treatment for a platform being taken seriously. The dry carbon weave is visible and consistent, and the fitment is specific to the 2022+ GR86 and BRZ engine bay geometry. No modification to the engine or cover mounting required.

This is the GR86/BRZ application. HKS also makes a dry carbon engine cover for the 2013-2021 FA20 chassis (AT013). Verify your chassis generation before ordering. The covers are engine-specific and not interchangeable.

The dry carbon engine cover is the entry point for engine bay carbon work on the 2022+ platform. It is visible every time the hood is open and makes the FA24 engine bay look intentional. Quick install, correct fitment, genuine carbon construction. The 0.6 kg versus 1.4 kg weight saving is meaningful on a platform where HKS and the factory both obsess over mass — the GR86 uses aluminum and resin body panels partly for this reason.
