Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag Coilover Kit for the 2020-2026 GR Supra

The HKS Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag Coilover Kit for the 2020-2021 Toyota GR Supra is a purpose-built drag racing coilover system, tuned for the specific demands of straight-line acceleration rather than the corner-focused calibration of HKS's road and track coilover offerings. Drag coilovers prioritize weight transfer management on launch, maintaining rear squat for traction without losing stability or control. The Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag is engineered for that application on the A90 chassis.

Specs & Highlights

  • Drag racing focused coilover system
  • Tuned for launch weight transfer and traction
  • Hipermax MAX IV SP platform
  • Height adjustable
  • Front and rear complete kit
  • Fitment: 2020-2026 Toyota GR Supra

8/4 kgf/mm Asymmetric Rates and Launch Geometry

The Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag is configured with 8.0 kgf/mm (448 lbf/in) front and 4.0 kgf/mm (224 lbf/in) rear spring rates, the asymmetric specification is intentional for drag use. The soft rear spring allows controlled rear squat on launch to load the rear tires, while the stiffer front resists nose rise beyond the point that aids traction. The front also includes a separately adjustable helper spring to maintain tire contact during wheel travel on bumpy surface launches. Front ride height range allows raising the nose pre-launch and resetting post-run.

How Drag Coilover Calibration Differs from Track

Drag coilover calibration is fundamentally different from road or track coilover calibration. On a drag car, the front suspension needs to allow controlled nose rise on launch to load the rear tires, and then settle quickly to maintain aero stability at speed. The rear suspension needs to allow controlled squat on launch without going beyond the point where it causes binding or alignment change. The Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag is calibrated for these specific requirements on the Supra's chassis and weight distribution.

2020-2021 Only, Not for Street or Track Day Use

This kit is for 2020-2021 model years specifically. Verify your model year before ordering. For road and track coilover applications on the same chassis, HKS offers the HIPERMAX S and Hipermax R. The Drag spec coilover is not the correct choice for mixed street and track use. The calibration will feel uncomfortable in normal driving.

The FT Breakdown

If you are drag racing your A90 Supra and you want HKS engineering behind your suspension setup, the Hipermax MAX IV SP Drag is the product. It is a niche application coilover from an engineering team that builds championship-winning drag cars. The calibration reflects real drag racing requirements, not street coilover specs with a different name. The 8/4 kgf/mm front/rear split on the drag coilover is the inverse of what you would spec for a circuit car — a circuit car wants a stiffer rear for cornering; a drag car wants a softer rear for squat. That inverted logic is deliberate engineering and it is why a drag coilover on a track car feels wrong, and vice versa. Use the right tool for the application.
