Hi-Power SPEC-L2 Cat-Back Exhaust for the FR-S, BRZ, and GR86

HKS Hi-Power SPEC-L2 Catback Exhaust - 2013-2016 Scion FRS / 2013-2025 Subaru BRZ / 2017 - 2025 Toyota GR86

The HKS Hi-Power SPEC-L2 Cat-Back Exhaust is HKS's flagship single-exit exhaust for the FA20 and FA24 platform, covering the 2013-2016 Scion FR-S, 2013-2025 Subaru BRZ, and 2017-2025 Toyota GR86 in one part number. The SPEC-L2 is the refined evolution of the original Hi-Power SPEC-L, with revised internal tuning for improved mid-range response and a sound character that is aggressive under load without becoming exhausting in daily driving. For the naturally aspirated FA20 and the turbocharged FA24, the SPEC-L2 is HKS's recommended cat-back.

Specs & Highlights

  • Cat-back exhaust system
  • SPEC-L2 internal tuning for improved mid-range response
  • Single exit configuration
  • Covers FA20 and FA24 applications
  • Stainless steel construction
  • Fitment: 2013-2016 Scion FR-S / 2013-2025 Subaru BRZ / 2017-2025 Toyota GR86

50.8mm Pipe, 7.8 kg, 93 dB(A) at WOT

The SPEC-L2 uses a 50.8mm (2 inch) main pipe diameter and exits through a single 115mm (4.5 inch) tip. Total system weight for the FT86 application is approximately 7.8 kg versus the factory exhaust weight of approximately 9.5 kg, a saving of about 1.7 kg. Sound level is approximately 93 dB(A) at 1m at WOT on the FA20 application. The SPEC-L2 internal geometry uses a reverse-cone expansion chamber before the main muffler body, which is HKS's method for generating the SPEC-L2's specific mid-range pulse character without simply removing baffles.

SPEC-L2 Internal Geometry and Mid-Range Character

The FA20 platform responds well to exhaust work because the factory exhaust system is heavily muffled to meet noise regulations in multiple markets. The SPEC-L2 retains the cat and front pipe (it is a cat-back system) while replacing the section where the most acoustic restriction exists. The result is noticeably more exhaust presence under load without the raspy, hollow sound of budget alternatives.

Single Part Number Covers FA20 and FA24

The single part number covering both FA20 and FA24 applications is important for ordering. HKS has verified fitment across both engine and chassis generations. The 2022+ GR86 uses the FA24 and has a revised underbody layout; HKS accounts for this in the SPEC-L2 design. No fitment adapter is required between generations.

The FT Breakdown

The SPEC-L2 is the exhaust HKS recommends for the platform as a whole because it works across the full production run and delivers the right balance of sound, flow, and daily usability. It is not the loudest option HKS makes for the FT86 chassis. It is the most complete. The 50.8mm pipe throughout and the reverse-cone expansion chamber in the SPEC-L2 muffler body are the two specifications that separate this exhaust from the large number of cat-back systems that use larger-diameter pipe and simple baffles to achieve roughly similar sound levels with worse mid-range flow behavior. The SPEC-L2 is engineered, not assembled.
